Allium cernum
Allium cernum
This is probably the easiest of the onion family to grow, being totally undemanding, odour free, untroubled by rain and makes a good cut flower. Allium cernum is a bulbous perennial with dark green strap shaped leaves appearing in spring.
The flower appears in early summer and are deep pink of white, hanging their heads in pendant clusters like chandeliers. this allium is easily grown from seed, taking just two years to flower, and makes a very attractive addition to the scree garden.
