Canarina canariensis
This is a winter flowering perennial and a deciduous climber, producing soft orangey-red pendulous bell shaped flowers with recurving petal tips. the flowers, which appear from September to march, are held at the ends of hanging branches, making a very gracefully shaped plant.
C. canariensis leaves are triangular with toothed edges and are a soft shiny green. The plant, being deciduous, dies down and disappears completely during the summer; it should be kept dry until new growth appears, when watering is once again required.
C. canariensis is best kept under glass when flowering, although the leaves will survive a minimum of -2°C. The winter flowering characteristic makes it a great joy during the dark months when there is little else around.
