Cottage Gardener's Companion

The Cottage Gardener's Companion
A Seasonal Guide to Plants & Plantings for Informal Gardens

Re-published by the CGS

Cottage Garen Companion book cover
In response to demand, the Cottage Garden Society re-published its guide to choosing and using plants in cottage-garden style. Written by Clive Lane, with contributions by Pat Collison (our first President) and edited by Pat Taylor, the book has planting schemes for all seasons and situations. In hardback, it has 160 pages, with superb colour photographs and original drawings - for just £10.00 (UK)

When it was first published, Geoff Hamilton wrote: "The Cottage Garden Society has done a great deal to promote the techniques and ideals of cottage gardening. This book is their latest contribution and should become the "bible" for gardeners who love the informality of country gardens." Cottage gardening is one of today's most popular gardening styles. Borders crammed with an informal jostle of herbs and flowers, paths lined with scented pinks and primroses, lavender bushes by the garden gate and roses round the door - the cottage-garden image is irresistible, and the style can he adapted to suit almost any garden, from country-house acres to tiny town courtyard.

The Cottage Gardener's Companion
is both an inspirational and practical guide to choosing and using plants to create the authentic cottage feel in your own garden - whether in town or country. Descriptions of the cottage garden scene and the tasks to be performed at each season are followed by a detailed compendium of traditional cottage-garden plants to choose. Trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials, bulbs, herbs, old cottage favourites and fascinating curiosities are all described, while a wealth of inspirational plant combinations and schemes are suggested for all seasons and situations. The Cottage Gardener's Companion is essential reading for everyone who would like to plant an abundant and beautiful garden - wherever they live.

Published in hardback by the Cottage Garden Society in September 2001, ISBN 0-9541021-0-X.
